FIELD SEASON HAS BEGUN!

It seems like it was winter only a couple of weeks ago, but just like that, the ice has melted, and a trip up to the North French River with some of our Learning from Lake Sturgeon team begins our field season! Pictured in the photos are Warren Iserhoff (our new Environmental Youth Coordinator), and the familiar faces of Jacob Seguin (WCS Canada) and Ryan Sutherland with Sutherland Exploration Services. The team made the trip up the North French River to maintain our receivers — the receivers are the in-water technology that “listen” for tagged namew (lake sturgeon) and log all of the detections. Once a year, our team needs to pull up these receivers, and download all of the information that the receivers have been recording all year.

Coming up next up this spring? Fieldwork on the Lower Mattagami River, to download those receivers!

It’s going to be an exciting summer to come, as well. What’s on the horizon? More lake sturgeon tagging, multiple youth programming events, and so much more! Keep an eye on this page for all the things to come.
